NW Rigging to Lake Washington

On Friday, April 20th, the Northwest Rigging crew traveled to the shores of Lake Washington to fix furler issues aboard a 90’s vintage Hunter 43.  It was a Pro-Furl brand furler and the owner reported he had been using the winch to deploy and furl the genoa for many years.  That did not sound right.  It was discovered, due to many installation errors, the forestay was spinning in and out of the turnbuckle each time!  Fortunately, the owner didn’t sail much but was looking forward to retirement in a few weeks and planned to use the boat more often.

The NW Rigging crew was able to string through a new forestay without taking the whole system apart and add some set screws to fix a few other rig tune issues.  Additionally, we lubed the masthead sheaves, cleaned up the radar dome and the boat was better than ever in one afternoon.

Great day Sailing! A pretty light northerly, just enough to keep us moving along at an average of about 3 knots.  We did a day sail over to Port Madison, tacked over to Edmonds, then back down to Shilshole.  It was a gorgeous day to be out on the water, especially with the regatta going on; it was fun to watch all of the racing boats in action.

I was thrilled with the equipments changes (designed and installed by Northwest Rigging).  The roller furler worked perfectly – boy did I appreciate it when it was time to douse the sails. I’m not used to needing a mere 15 seconds or so to stow the headsail 🙂

Loved the strong track and the lazy jacks on the main.  Everything was pretty effortless.  The new main sheet system also worked great.

S0..  I’m very happy with the new sails and the rigging work.

Ready for Transport

On Friday, march 29th, Northwest Rigging’s crew unstepped the mast on a beautiful 1978 C&C 48.  This boat has been restored to beautiful condition twice, but the rod rigging was original.  The owner has no plans to race her and chose to switch to wire rigging for a significant savings, rather than replace the rods.

It is likely that the tangs and spreaders had never been removed, even during the last two paint jobs.

Northwest Rigging will clean up corrosion issues, package up your spar for transport and build new Type 316  1X19 wire rigging.

This boat is headed to the East Coast for a two year East Coast and Carribean tour.
